World’s first smart sleep tech wearable using blue-green light

Light therapy with retimer involves exposure to blue-green light for a prescribed amount of time at a specific time of day. The wave length of the light used has been found to be most effective in changing our ‘body clock’, or circadian rhythm.

Prof. Leon Lack

Professor Leon Lack received his first degree from Stanford University in the USA and PhD from the University of Adelaide. Since 1971 he has been at Flinders University in the School of Psychology teaching and conducting research in the areas of sleep, circadian rhythms, bright light therapy
and insomnia.

He has received many large research grants, published over 200 refereed articles, books, and book chapters, and given over 250 conference papers in the sleep area.

Since 1992 he has also directed the non-drug treatment program for insomnia at the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health.

Dr. Lack has also taken an active role in public education about sleep and the body clock through invited lectures, workshops, media presentations, and publication of a popular book on the treatment of insomnia.

He also has patents and is co-inventor of a portable bright light therapy device, Re-timer for the treatment of a mis-timed body clock. Thus he has integrated his teaching, research, clinical practice, public education roles, and commercial development activities in an attempt to improve public understanding of sleep and to ameliorate the problem of insomnia and circadian rhythm disorders in our society.

Dr. Helen Wright

Helen is an avid researcher in the areas of sleep, circadian rhythms and insomnia. Her research at Flinders University pioneered the different wavelengths of light (colours) effects on the re-timing of the body clock. Consistent with other contemporary research from other labs, her work confirmed that blue and blue-green light were the most effective for re-timing the body clock. She is particularly interested in cognitive behaviour therapy for insomnia and bright light therapies for the treatment of insomnia experienced by adolescents and adults.

Helen is author on a number of peer-reviewed journal articles. She has also co-written a book for the general public describing how to improve sleep and daytime functioning.

Helen earned her PhD from Flinders University of South Australia, and also holds a Masters in Psychology (Clinical).
